Mass Bay Credit Union Charitable Foundation contributes both financially, and through volunteer efforts, to make our communities better places to live and work. Following the credit union ideal of “People Helping People,” our Foundation and our teams strive to positively impact the communities we serve. Some of the causes we assist include: providing scholarship opportunities for high school seniors, offering financial education, and donating to causes that have a positive local impact.
We host a fundraising golf tournament annually to raise money for our Foundation. This year the golf tournament scheduled for August 8th had to be rescheduled to October 17, 2023 due to inclement weather. The event is held annually at The Cape Club of Sharon. All proceeds will help provide support to local organizations that we believe make our community a better place to live and work. 100% of the funds raised go directly to these endeavors, with zero administrative expenses deducted.
Here are some of the community organizations the Foundation supported in 2023:
The Greater Boston Food Bank
Boys and Girls Club of South Boston
Boston's Wounded Veterans Race
Catholic Charities- Laboure' Center
Friends of Boston's Homeless
South Boston Neighborhood Health Center
Rosie's Place
K9 Kitt Foundation
Thank you to all those who supported the golf tournament this year. We look forward to seeing you at our next Tournament! We'll provide more details once we secure a date for 2024!
As part of this program, we participate in the Credit For Life Fair for Quincy High School Students. At the event, high school students are given the opportunity to project their future finances using realistic salaries and expenses.
The other event we support as part of the Quincy School Community Partnership is a backpack program. Each September, the Mass Bay Charitable Foundation provides nearly 400 backpacks filled to the brim with school supplies for the Francis W. Parker Elementary School.
Through our Annual Scholarship Program, the Foundation awards college-bound high school seniors $1,000 scholarships each, to offset some costs of their freshman year.
The application is open each year from February 1st until April 30th. Students must submit an application, their high school transcript, and a 250-word essay. Each year we post new essay guidelines on or around February 1st.
This year scholarship winners were invited for lunch and to meet the employees at Mass Bay Credit Union Headquaters in South Boston. Here are a few of the pictures from the event.
This year we fulfilled our commitment to the community by providing financial guidance to the senior residents of O'Connor Way Housing South Boston. Our program focused on assisting them in evaluating their current spending patterns, crafting an ideal spending plan, and providing practical tips to help them reduce expenses.
